This resource package includes a recording and copy of the PPT for the following workshop:
Students learn best when they receive effective support (scaffolding) and are given achievable challenges appropriate for their individual level (differentiation). The theory is nice – but when we have 25 students, each with different needs in our class, how do we manage this? This workshop looks at time efficient strategies for scaffolding students and differentiating their tasks in the type of routine writing, reading and speaking activities we do every day in the English classroom. Importantly, this workshop will look to expand teachers’ understanding of what scaffolding and differentiation is – that it’s more than just giving a different piece of work to every student – and that effective scaffolding and differentiation can often be achieved by making small, but important changes to our class pedagogy.
