This practical workshop will demonstrate to teachers a range of explicit teaching procedures to improve students’ comprehension and inference of fiction and non-fiction texts. In particular, the workshop will look at:
- the difference between reading assessment and learning to read activities
- how to use strategies at the pre, during and post reading stages
- how to incorporate direct reading instruction into typical units such as text response, persuasive and creative writing
- how to create reading programs and cultures of reading
