This workshop looks at the important year of transition from middle secondary to VCE. It focuses on typical units we do at Year 10, and how to do them well, such as analysis or argument, persuasive writing and individual text response units (including suggestions for texts), but also suggests how to design and approach units to give students a foundation for the new VCE English study design (to be implemented in 2022) such as thematic creative units. This workshop will also show teachers how to teach essential micro skills students will need for VCE English such as using analytical language, inserting evidence into writing, pulling apart essay tasks and understanding how to apply specific creative features to their own writing. Importantly, it will also look at how to introduce a study regime in class to prepare students to study independently in VCE.
