This workshop is designed to support teachers in confidently teaching the Craft of Writing area of study for VCE English. Drawing on two years of high-scoring examination responses, examiners’ reports, and school-based SAC experiences, the session focuses on what matters most when designing and delivering an effective Craft of Writing unit.
The workshop explores practical ways to scaffold students to:
*develop a clear and flexible understanding of an idea framework
*generate a wide range of original, personal and imaginative ideas in response to a framework
*shape writing around a distinctive voice, purpose and structure
*sustain and cohesively explore ideas across an entire piece of writing rather than in isolated moments
Throughout the session, teachers will examine classroom strategies, planning approaches and model activities that can be adapted for different cohorts, with a strong emphasis on helping students move from initial ideas to polished, controlled and conceptually coherent pieces of writing.
