Description

The Water In The World – 2025 Activity Pack provides teachers with a range of recent examples and data to teach students about the distribution of water, its cycle, its meaning to people and the hazards it can create in Australia. This activity pack includes three hydrological case studies from the last 12 months that can be used as ‘mini’ units within a bigger Water In The World unit. Each of these case studies includes 5-6 handouts that take students through how this event has occurred, what its impact is and how it demonstrates important elements of the distribution, cycle or hazards of water in Australia:

  • The flooding of Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre basin system
  • Flood and drought in Eastern and South Eastern Australia
  • PFAs contaminating the water in Jervis Bay

These case studies provide scaffolded and structured opportunities for students to:

  • interpret a range of different types of data: statistics, maps, images, human stories
  • create descriptions, explanations and responses to data
  • organise and represent data in different ways
  • use digital tools to access and represent data
