This workshop is aimed at senior primary and junior secondary literacy and English teachers. It will demonstrate to teachers a range of explicit and evidence based teaching procedures to improve students’ comprehension and inference of fiction and non-fiction texts within class. In particular, the workshop will look at:
- the difference between reading assessment and learning to read activities
- how to use strategies at the pre, during and post reading stages and establishing reading routines
- how to incorporate direct reading instruction into typical units such as text response, persuasive and creative writing
- how to link reading and writing
